On Sunday, October 11th, 2009 at 3 p.m. we will be holding our annual Fall Picnic at Beechwood Lake in the picnic table area. Main dish will be provided, bring drinks, side dish and desserts for this fun meet and greet under the fall leaves.

Items on the agenda include:

* Informal gathering, picnic dinner
* Elections of 2010 Trustees (Secretary, Treasurer, President)
* Call for Trustees
* Discuss raise in annual dues to $50.00
* Solicit Comments and Concerns from Residents
crime seems to be on the rise.
— the county has been mercilessly chopping away at trees along Beechwood. More than is needed and without consultation.
—The power company went overboard clearing trees around the wires and never came back to clean up the mess.  Have other residents expressed this?

We hope to see you there. If you can’t make it feel free to send input to roman@edenmarketing.com, or check (and post to) the website located at http://www.beechwoodofathens.com

street_paving.gifHello Beechwood-

We received word today that Beechwood West and Cornell Road will be paved in the “next 2-3 weeks.” We’re happy about that, but you may see some construction going on. Just a heads up!

Also, many thanks to Roy Lawrence and Paul Grippa for tearing down the ugly bus stop. We appreciate it.

We have an executive meeting of the Beechwood Committee On Thursday, September 10, 2009 with minutes to be sent soon after. We will be catching up on some summer duties, as well as planning a date for the Annual Fall Picnic/ Elections.

Many thanks –

Beechwood Residential Association Meeting Minutes from Monday, April 13th at 7 pm at Phil’s House.

Present:

Roman Warmke (President) – Brad Jokisch (Treasurer) – Phil Richardson (Trustee)

* Dick Schelat (Trustee) and Caryn Asleson (Secretary) was unable to attend.

Topics Discussed:

1. Annual Ervin Party: We’re pretty sure there is to be two Saturday parties this May on the farm, though the dates are unclear. It was decided that the best course of action is to write a letter to the Sheriff (and trustees) asking for increased patrol that night, and to include our main concerns to have a written record. That letter is attached for review.

2. Roads: There was discussion to resurrect Mr. Myers letter to the Township Trustees regarding a stop sign on Ervin Road (Stagecoach intersection.) We will revisit this at the next meeting.

3. Beechwood Website: Roman is going to install PayPal payments on the site so Brad can collect payments online. We will also include an “Optional Donation” field for additional contributions.

4. Bus Stop still up? Brad and Roman are working to find a cost effective solution for the removal. More soon.

5. Beechwood Picnic (Spring). The Spring Picnic will be held on TBA

6. More Phish: Brad and Linda have purchased some fish and plan on introducing them to Beechwood Lake very soon.

7. Lake Maintenance: Drainage and debris are currently running smoothly. Discussions ensued about getting 2 new outdoor tables to replace the rotting ones currently down there, as well as a peir. Next steps are to solicit donations on the website for this.

8. Finances: There was no financial report requested for this meeting. Next meeting Brad will supply a current balance of accounting.

Next meeting – Beechwood Picnic, May, TBA

Athens County Sheriff’s Office

13 West Washington St

Athens OH 45701

Dear Athens County Sheriff- DEAR ATHENS COUNTY SHERIFF PAT KELLY

WE ARE WRITING TO EXPRESS SEVERAL CONCERNS ABOUT TWO LARGE-SCALE PUBLIC PARTIES PLANNED NEXT TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, BEECHWOOD ESTAES. “FIVE FEST” (SIX) AND ISLAND HEAT MUSICAL FESTIVAL ARE SCHEDULED TAKE PLACE THIS MAY AT THE ERVIN FARM AT THE RED BARN—STAGECOACH ROAD. LAST YEAR FIVE FEST WAS AN ABSOLUTE MESS. THESE PARTIES HAVE GROWN WAY TOO LARGE AND ARE DISRUPTIVE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. SPECIFICALLY WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT:

A) The issues of the free and safe passage on the road for both emergency vehicles and local traffic

B) the health concerns of the “illegal dump” and littering following the event

C) the likelihood of people driving under the influence.

D) parking AND MEANDERING DRUNK PARTIERS encroaching into Beechwood

We recently met with Larry Payne in person to express our great concern and he offered the

following guidance:

* Athens County will be attempting to make Stagecoach “one way” for the evenT, and provide even more

busing and road security.

* Athens County will do a better job enforcing the “one week cleanup” rule, and we are encouraged to call

the Athens County Health Department to complain about the aftermath.

* We have been told an increase in police presence is to be expected this year.

* We have been asked to contact the Sheriff’s department to increase patrol in Beechwood that night.

Please consider our request as THESE PARTIES HAVE OUTGROWN THE ERVIN FARM AND HAVE BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM The sheer level of drunkenness and chaos had our residents on edge and concerned that such events were being held so far from the Ohio University Campus. WE HOPE TO WORK WITH YOU ON IMPROVING THIS SITUATION SO THAT THE PARTIES DO NOT BECOME EVEN MORE UNSAFE AND UNRULY. We count on you our elected officials to keep our community safe and we thank you for your kind attention to this matter. THEN, YOU MIGHT SAY, THAT WE WELCOME HIS FEEDBACK OR PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

Regards,

Beechwood Residential Association Meeting Minutes from Monday, December 1, 7 pm:

Present:

Roman Warmke (President) – Brad Jokisch (Treasurer) – Phil Richardson (Trustee) – Dick Schelat (Trustee) and – Linda Brose * Caryn Asleson (Secretary) was unable to attend.

Topics Discussed:

18849_drunk_green_three_eyed_horned_monster_with_yellow_hair_stumbling_and_spilling_bubbly_beer.jpg1.Annual Ervin Party planned for mid-May on Ervin’s Farm. After some discussion about who to contact and why, we decided to have Roman contact our new County Commissioner Larry Payne, as well as Officer Rick (Crossen) to voice the following concerns, as well as request guidance on how to pursue:

– the issues of the free and safe passage on the road for both emergency vehicles and local traffic

– the health concerns of the “illegal dump” and littering following the event

– the likelihood of people driving under the influence.

– general noise problems

– parking encroaching into Beechwood

Roman will report back on the time with PAYNE as well as input from Rick.

2. Roads/ Tree Cutting (Ripping) – We all marveled over the hack job the county did “trimming” the trees recently. Phil voiced concern over the physical condition of the roads in Beechwood and it was decided that when we are able to meet with Larry Payne (see above) we will also get a “check in” on roads.

tax.gif3. Beechwood Tax-Deductible? Brad volunteered to make a call to see if indeed Beechwood is the “type” of non-profit that people can donate to (think “inheritance, etc.) and be tax deductible. Brad will report back next meeting.

4. Bus Stop still up? Yes lazy Roman has not torn it down yet, but hopes to over the holiday break when Mark Richardson is in town to help. Concern over “saving” the sign that points “Cornell” but assurance was made to try to save it. Roman will tear that beast down over break and report back next meeting. UPDATE – As Roman prepared to tear down the bus stop, he realized he is a musician / web designer who’s livelyhood relies on his hand, he then took off his coat in favor of a warm cup of coffee and plans to discuss other options at the next meeting.

5. Beechwood Picnic (Fall). We all agreed the recent picnic held at the lake was a lot of fun, and we’ll aim for an April and August bi-annual meeting down there.

Next Steps:

Roman: – Contact Officer Rick and Larry Payne, Tear down bus stop, website.

Brad: – Beechwood tax deductible?

Phil: – final polish to letter to county on Ervin Party.

Next meeting – Monday, February 3, 7 pm

Burglury Concerns

Author: admin
09.26.08

Hi Beechwood-

burglary.jpgOkay, so in the past  6 weeks we have had the following reports:

* Burglary of one house on Cornell Road that involved the theft of some video games and electronic equipment

* Burglary of another home on Beechwood Drive that involved some very expensive guitars

* Report of a a distraught and disoriented man knocking on a door on Cornell Road at 5 am worried about his own safety.

* Report of the theft of a purse from an unlocked car on Beechwood Drive with contents littered around the neighborhood.

Does this seem routine to you? Not me, and I am upset about it. The Executive Board will be setting up an appointment with the Sheriff’s dept. to bump up patrols… our question is, do we think this might be stemming from within… or are we being targeted from outside of Beechwood?

Has anyone else had any unsetteling things happen, or know of any?

Does anyone have any information or have seen anyone around who should not be?

Please respond to this thread by registering to post on this site, or send comments to roman@edenmarketing.com

Many thanks for your time,

Roman Warmke

Hornet’s nest

Author: admin
09.16.08

Hi Folks,

I wanted to make people aware that there is a large hornet’s nest/hive hanging from one of the pine trees by the dam. It is to the left of the white sign, second tree I believe. It should not be a problem to anyone as long as it is not disturbed.  You might want to be careful if anyone fishes from that side of the pond.
