Passing of a Long Time Resident

Phyllis Nadine “Dee” Lawrence passed away this week at the age of 80. She was a long time resident of Beechwood and will be dearly missed.

Phyllis Nadine (Dee) Lawrence (80) of Palms of Terra Ceia, Palmetto, FL, passed away at Blake Hospital, Bradenton, on June 28, 2010. The daughter of Bob and Ruth Schneider, she grew up in Gahanna, Ohio. She was a graduate of Ohio State University. She married Roy Lawrence in 1954. They lived in Aberdeen, Maryland, Fort Worth and Dallas Texas, and then settled in Athens, Ohio for twenty-seven years. She started her career as a school teacher and later was a Field Service Director for Girl Scouts in Ohio and West Virginia. In Athens, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an active alumnus of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Dee and her husband retired as “snow birds” to Florida in 1995. A dedicated member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, she was active in the Bell Choir and numerous other church activities. She loved people, especially children, and entertaining friends in her home. She was a willing participant in about any type of table game. She traveled the U.S. from north to south, east to west and visited Europe and Japan. She had a full life and enjoyed it. She is survived by her husband Roy, children Susan, Scott and David Lawrence; nine grandchildren and her sister, Marilyn Shreffler. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Richard and Wib Schneider. Memorial services will be held for her at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bradenton at 2:00pm Thursday, July 1. Donations in Dee’s memory may be made to Presbyterian Women of Westminster Church.
