Beechwood Residential Association Meeting Minutes from Monday, April 13th at 7 pm at Phil’s House.

Present:

Roman Warmke (President) – Brad Jokisch (Treasurer) – Phil Richardson (Trustee)

* Dick Schelat (Trustee) and Caryn Asleson (Secretary) was unable to attend.

Topics Discussed:

1. Annual Ervin Party: We’re pretty sure there is to be two Saturday parties this May on the farm, though the dates are unclear. It was decided that the best course of action is to write a letter to the Sheriff (and trustees) asking for increased patrol that night, and to include our main concerns to have a written record. That letter is attached for review.

2. Roads: There was discussion to resurrect Mr. Myers letter to the Township Trustees regarding a stop sign on Ervin Road (Stagecoach intersection.) We will revisit this at the next meeting.

3. Beechwood Website: Roman is going to install PayPal payments on the site so Brad can collect payments online. We will also include an “Optional Donation” field for additional contributions.

4. Bus Stop still up? Brad and Roman are working to find a cost effective solution for the removal. More soon.

5. Beechwood Picnic (Spring). The Spring Picnic will be held on TBA

6. More Phish: Brad and Linda have purchased some fish and plan on introducing them to Beechwood Lake very soon.

7. Lake Maintenance: Drainage and debris are currently running smoothly. Discussions ensued about getting 2 new outdoor tables to replace the rotting ones currently down there, as well as a peir. Next steps are to solicit donations on the website for this.

8. Finances: There was no financial report requested for this meeting. Next meeting Brad will supply a current balance of accounting.

Next meeting – Beechwood Picnic, May, TBA

Athens County Sheriff’s Office

13 West Washington St

Athens OH 45701

Dear Athens County Sheriff- DEAR ATHENS COUNTY SHERIFF PAT KELLY

WE ARE WRITING TO EXPRESS SEVERAL CONCERNS ABOUT TWO LARGE-SCALE PUBLIC PARTIES PLANNED NEXT TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, BEECHWOOD ESTAES. “FIVE FEST” (SIX) AND ISLAND HEAT MUSICAL FESTIVAL ARE SCHEDULED TAKE PLACE THIS MAY AT THE ERVIN FARM AT THE RED BARN—STAGECOACH ROAD. LAST YEAR FIVE FEST WAS AN ABSOLUTE MESS. THESE PARTIES HAVE GROWN WAY TOO LARGE AND ARE DISRUPTIVE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. SPECIFICALLY WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT:

A) The issues of the free and safe passage on the road for both emergency vehicles and local traffic

B) the health concerns of the “illegal dump” and littering following the event

C) the likelihood of people driving under the influence.

D) parking AND MEANDERING DRUNK PARTIERS encroaching into Beechwood

We recently met with Larry Payne in person to express our great concern and he offered the

following guidance:

* Athens County will be attempting to make Stagecoach “one way” for the evenT, and provide even more

busing and road security.

* Athens County will do a better job enforcing the “one week cleanup” rule, and we are encouraged to call

the Athens County Health Department to complain about the aftermath.

* We have been told an increase in police presence is to be expected this year.

* We have been asked to contact the Sheriff’s department to increase patrol in Beechwood that night.

Please consider our request as THESE PARTIES HAVE OUTGROWN THE ERVIN FARM AND HAVE BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM The sheer level of drunkenness and chaos had our residents on edge and concerned that such events were being held so far from the Ohio University Campus. WE HOPE TO WORK WITH YOU ON IMPROVING THIS SITUATION SO THAT THE PARTIES DO NOT BECOME EVEN MORE UNSAFE AND UNRULY. We count on you our elected officials to keep our community safe and we thank you for your kind attention to this matter. THEN, YOU MIGHT SAY, THAT WE WELCOME HIS FEEDBACK OR PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

Regards,
